Alcina's Magic Island
Children's Opera Digital Backdrops
Directed by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's Professor Ellen Denham and performed by Islander Voices, the production is a modern adaptation of a classic piece funded by a Coastal Alliance to Protect our Environment grant. I created a series of six animated backgrounds for display on the Performing Arts Center's giant digital screen to loop behind the performers throughout the production.
Background #1
The performance opens with a lush island with palm trees and flowering tropical bushes.
Background #2
The lush island is now wrought with visible “pollution” in the air and water with signs of degradation from heavy industry.
Background #3
We are now inside a Spanish colonial-style hacienda with picture windows that display a different view of the lush island outside.
Background #4
Dirty, dreary, polluted, environmentally degraded wetland on the island.
Background #5
From inside the hacienda, we can see that the once lush landscape outside is now polluted by industrial waste.
Background #6
From inside the hacienda, the lush landscape is restored and pristine.
